Haywood Micaye: PREORDER LIVE! (Also, A Desperate Attempt to Apologize)

Hello, friends!

This isn’t a joke. My novel, Haywood Micaye, is now live for preorder on e-readers, (and, soon in paperback form), and will officially drop January 2nd, 2019!

I’m so remarkably happy to finally be able to announce this, especially after dedicating four years of my life to this novel. I’m so excited to finally be able to share it with the world!

Some of you who have been following my announcements might notice, however, that I had originally said it was going to be released much earlier than now. And while that was the case for a long while, plans sort of changed. I wanted to take the time to address that issue and move forward with the project.

Another Update Cluster

Hello there, friends!

Where has the summer gone? It seems like only yesterday it was May…

So these past few weeks have been hectic for me. I will be starting college this fall, and juggling all of the paperwork that requires along with work, writing, and day-to-day life has meant that I have slipped up on a few things and left projects on the back burner for a little longer than I probably ought to have. That being said, there have been a lot of good things that have happened these past few days that I am excited to share with you.

First and foremost, however, we need to talk about Haywood Micaye. (more…)

I Did The Thing!

Hello there, friends!

Time for a story.

So, “I did the thing” is an expression I began using, initially, to show my excitement when I couldn’t summon any genuine feelings of excitement.

When I was a senior in high school, I participated in an club called Speech and Debate, a theater competition in which students would take published works and perform them at competitions around our district. There are a wide variety of event types one can do when they do Speech and Debate: Dramatic Interpretation (presentation of a dramatic work), Humorous Interpretation (presentation of a humorous work), Poetry (a reading of a poem or multiple poems with a common theme), Prose (can be either funny or sad, but typically these are short stories), and Duet Acting (can be funny or sad, but performed with two people rather than one, like the rest of the events), to name a few.

“I’m Back, Bay-Bee!”

Hello there, friends!

Yeah. It’s been a while. If you’ve hung around for this long, I ought to congratulate you for your faith in me. There have been several months where I haven’t had any faith in myself, but I think I’m ready to try and really pick this blogging thing up again.

Hamilton and Reflections

Hello there, friends!

I’m going to open this post by talking about Hamilton.

For those of you who don’t know, Hamilton is a (fairly) new musical that tells the story of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton through the use of rap, hip hop, and pop style songs. The musical, with the lyrics, book, and music written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, is based on Ron Chernow’s biography of Hamilton written back in 2003.

I caved one weekend this past December and finally listened to the entire musical soundtrack, and I, like so many other listeners, found myself swimming in a puddle of tears by the end.

One Year Later

Hello there, friends!

This past Thursday was an important day for me: exactly one year ago on that day, I donned a spiffy brown blazer, gray sweater vest, bow tie, and khakis to deliver a book report to my English Literature class. I had something else to tell them about, too. In fact, that was the first public announcement I had ever made about my plans on turning Haywood Micaye into a published book.

It was a great day for me. I got my first contribution to my Kickstarter (which ended up being an Indiegogo campaign), received a lot of encouragement from my peers and teachers, and overall felt proud that I had committed to finally putting my dreams in motion.

I wrote a blog post about the event last year-unfortunately, somewhere along the lines of me changing the blog, the original post got deleted. I almost let the day pass without any real occurrence. However, I was feeling reflective today, so I dug up the draft and decided to post it in celebration of the memory and to reflect on everything that’s happened since.

Enjoy.

And So We Begin

Hello there, friends!

It seems like life has a way of slamming me with a lot of work and busy weeks that end up inevitably sliding out of my hands. There are many times I contemplated writing a blog post but got caught up in my other activities, or I was simply too tired and lazy to bother with a post. I accredit my procrastinating tendencies to my birth itself, as even then I was born three days late, so obviously it must be something in my biology.

All joking aside, things have been going rather well during my hiatus. Or, as well as I can get them to go along. Trying to juggle a writing career that’s still working to take off along with school, a part-time job, and a bucket load of extracurricular activities is a particular form of perdition I try to get through as best I can. Some things suffer when I try to balance it all, a lot of stress and unnecessary fear is generated from it, but I think that in the next couple weeks things will settle a little more. Until then, I’m riding the waves wherever they take me.

Up to this point, that’s been to a lot of good things.

Hello there, friends!

Happy Labor Day to all of you! Hopefully you’ve set aside some time to relax- I know I have! As we go into the next week, I just wanted to announce a few exciting things that have happened as far as the anthology I mentioned a while back is concerned and give anyone who is interested some updates on Haywood Micaye.
